Waterford Ciddy Tours pubs of The Month are voted for by our members. As such Pub of the month is our highest accolade
that we can give to the Pubs of Waterford...

2008
January Saratoga - Woodstown
We are delighted to announce that the Saratoga becomes the first pub to retain the title of Pub of the month. Through the festive season, several of our members were awarded with Christmas drinks and fantastic hospitality. Darrers has calculated that the fair priced drinks outway the cost of a taxi, making this his new local.
Saratoga
February Alfie Hales - Ballybricken
Since our inception we have been somewhat critical of Alfie Hales. This month after our Ballybricken tour and a closer look at what is on offer we have decided to take it all back. Alfies in Ballybriken has great beer, fantastic characters and a great atmosphere. A worthy winner.
Alfie Hales
March Kennedys of Callaghan
This little pub on the road out to Dunmore East is a real belter. Although the ciddy is quickly approaching, it has held on to all its unique country feel and the hospitality here is very welcoming. We were amazed that the locals could still endulge in long forgotten drinks such as whiskey and milk.
Kennedys of Callaghan
April Jordans - The Quay
Jordans yet again was the ending point for our now famous Holy Thursday tour. This time having been previous to the Ultimate bar we were greatful for the extended attention of the ample bar staff in this fine pub. Only Swinng failed to make it this far and we fear he may never recover.
Jordans
May The Yella House
The highlight of the 'Hard man tour' was the visit to the Yella House. Unlike other places where strangers walk in to a bad reception, this place embraces and wants to enjoy your company. The locals brought out the guitars and a sing song happened in our honour. Yet it was only 9 pm on a Friday. Try and find that somewhere else. A class pub and a class crowd. We will be back.
Yella House
June The Farleigh - Passage East
The Farleigh was the highlight of our first hack tour of 2008.
Farleigh
July Byrnes - Hack Island
Byrnes despite being in Wexico was the highlight of our back-to-back hack tour. Not many pubs have a better viev.
Byrnes
August Club Koobze
Club Koobze, because it was open till like 3:30 plus the management allows smoking on the premises. There was also a good selection of drink including Bulmers, Heineken, and Water. By special invitation only.
Club Koobze
September Nells
When we heard that Nells was closed earlier this year, we were so upset we made it POTM in honour of the good times it had provided. Now that it has reopened again and with the same management, we had to make it POTM yet again. Welcome back Nells.
Nells

2007
January Tom Mahers - O'Connell Street
Our first pub of the month for 2007 is a firm favorite of ciddytours. Tom Mahers is a regular venue on our traditional tours. Famous for its strict policy on women and its low prices. Usually closes at 10:00pm sharp, so not one for a late drink.
Tom Mahers - Waterford
February The Candy - Johnnyland
The Candy lies in the heart of Johnnyland. This well run pub was the highlight of recent tour of the area. We enjoyed the singing pubs and we will be entering Day Tripper next time with his rendition of "smalltown boy"...
The Candy - Waterford
March Electric Avenue
Electric Avenue has quickly become a favourite spot to finish a tour. Featuring good music and free live gigs it has way surpassed its previous incarnation - Uselesses.
A place to pay homage to the ghost of the "Waterfall Jacks" and see the contortionists bogroll holders!
Electric Avenue - Waterford
April Lyons Bar Slieverue
Better known as Kathleen Lyonses, you know from the moment you walk in that you are in a real pub. The welcoming smell of must is soon disguised with the more welcoming smell of turf fire roasting old local. This pub really has to be visited if you are in the area for its undoubted old school charm, its old school jacks and while you are there say hello to Scauldy - the friendliest barmaid in North Waterford!
Lyons - Slieverue
May Albert Lynch's - Mallow
Albert Lynch's pub was originally part of a church of Ireland school it was sold and opened as a pub in 1851...and has been a pub ever since. Although extensively renovated and extended you can still get the sense of history in this pub when you step across the threshold. We were there on a Saturday night and the place was electric it reminds me of Geoff’s about ten years ago with a nice mixture of young and old clientele a mix reflecting this pubs long association with the people of Mallow. Although busy the staff were very efficient and as a result you never had to wait too long to get served despite the crowd. The few pints were enhanced by a nice chat with some of the older clientele who delighted in telling us of the pubs history ... Putting all this together Lynch's is in our opinion a great candidate for our May pub of the month.
Alberts
June Poop Deck Edmund D - Passage East
Although not strictly a pub the Poop Deck of the Edmund D has undoubtedly the best (non Chesty related) view of any pub we have ever visited. It is also the only venue that has been visited twice on one tour. So if you are going to Hack Island take a hip flask and drink a toast to Edmund D (Gawd bless 'im) whoever he is!
Edmund D
July Jack Meades - Under a bridge somewhere in East Waterford
The traditional starting point for our Hack tours, its amazing what ye can do with a few posts and a tent. Although all the action takes place outside it still managed to retain alot of the charm of the actual pub.
Jack Meades
August Mansion House - Johnstown
Currently calling itself the "Man ion", this is one of the better pubs in Johnstown. It is also one of the last pubs in town where the price differs from the front bar to the back lounge. If you do venture into the front bar, don't draw attention to Frank in the corner. Rumor has it that he is barred.
Mansion House
September McLoughlans - Ciddy Centre
We have visited Allies twice in 2007 and in both occasions we were impressed by the hustle and bustle of the place. Secretly used as the bar for Garter Lane, the bar here can fill and dissipate within minutes. Allies can also be used as a place to leave your lack if you need a quick Whiskey Mac from Tom Maher's.
McLoughlans
October Wander Inn - Johnstown
Another pub that has recently changed its name. The DER Inn as its now known (Where has your 'Wan' gone?) is a great spot and well worthy of this award . We liked the characters, the barman, the smells and the beer. Not many places like this left.
The Wander Inn
November Nells - The Quay (RIP)
Nells is our first ever pub to regain the title of pub of the month. We are however awarding this as a mark of respect as sadly Nells is no more. We will miss the characters, the decor and the atmosphere that made this one of the ciddy's finest.
Nells - Waterford
December The Saratoga - Woodstown
Having been to the Saratoga twice in the past month, there was no contest in the selection of it as our December Pub of the Month. It is refreshing to have a landlord who is in touch with his patrons and is willing to go the extra step to bring you back. The Saratoga is a true gem and highly deserving of this accolade.
Saratoga

2006
January Mordants - Mayors Walk
Only narrowly missing out on our top spot for Pub of the year 2005, Mordants is a WCT Classic. We only visited by Mordants for the first time in June 2005. Since then it has been etched into our hall of fame and was later included on our Holy Thursday tour. Lost in time, this place has it all.
Ida Mordants - Waterford
February Cest What - Toronto
Although not a Waterford pub (far from it...), this was the highlight of the recent Toronto Waterford Annual Tour(TWAT). This gem has a wide variety of ales on offer including their own HEMP Ale.
Cest What - Toronto
March Martha Powers - Tramore
A true gem and this was the highlight of our Tramore tour and went straight into the Waterford Ciddy Tours 'Hall of Fame'. It is right up there with Mahers as one of the all time classic pubs to visit. The time spent sipping Guinness in the backroom in front of the super ser will live with us forever.

Marthas was also voted Pub of 2006 by our members.
Martha Powers - Tramore
April Back Of The Munster - The Quay
Sadly this may be the only chance that this venue will make our pub of the month. Famous for their inauspicious clientele, entering this pub reduces all conversation to a hush. Be warned, each local has their own seat. Upset this equilibrium at your peril.
Back of The Munster - Waterford
May Jordans - The Quay
Jordans is a regular on our Holy Thursday tours and we love it more each time we return. Its the scenery in Jordans that we like most. Jordans is now also famous for being the first pub in the world to pour a Hot Mossy (our unique WCT cocktail creation).
Jordans - Waterford
June Twomeys - Passage East
Twomeys has two taps Guinness and Heineken (take your pick) and like Ida Mordants sold tins! It also had a SuperSer on the Bar (Nice touch). We liked this pub and its landlady Annette a lot. It is a worthy winner of our June "Pub of the Month".
Twomeys - Passage East
July The Tap Room - Ballybriken
The Tap Room Irelands nicest corridor straddling the corner between pigville and the mayors stolling ground. Frequented by Ex-glass taxi drivers complaining about de fact that de glass and paddy galvin robbed em blind.
The Tap Room - Waterford
August Nells - The Quay
A compact and bijou establishment catering for the Geoff's retirees. This pub caters for an eccentric mix of old bikers, even older hippies and the odd lost soul looking for the corner bar, a pint and a pair of nylons....
Nells - Waterford
September Phil Grimes - Johnstown
Grimes is easily the best pub in Johnstown. It is a hurling mecca and retains the name of a Waterford great. We like it for its busy atmosphere and traditional appearence. Only once included on a tour we are long overdue another visit.
Phil Grimes - Waterford
October The Old Ground - The Glen
This is a great pub run in the time old tradition that we love. The landlord is a true gent and makes a mean Hot Mossy. We were chuffed, he gave us three of them on the house ! Never has a pub been more fitting as pub of the month.
The Old Ground - Waterford
November Downses - Thomas Street
Home of Downses No. 9
Narrowly beaten by the Old Ground for October Pub of the Month, Downses now takes its deserved place in this hallowed hall. Visited twice in October by Ciddytours, this pub distinguished itself twice. The first time by preparing the signature drink "The Hot Mossy" and the second time by hosting the Oktoberfest Non-Tour Tour, which has gone down in legend.
Downses is always worth a visit from those who appreciate a pub of real character!
Downses - Waterford
December Katty Barrys
Our final pub of the month for 2006 is one which has transformed under new ownership. Kattys has all the hallmarks of a Ciddytours classic. A Barman that drinks Hot Mossys and a superser in the corner.
Kattys was the highlight of our Nov 06 Ruggers tour and one that we are sure to return to in the future.
Katty Barrys - Waterford

2005
November The Toddle - Yella Road
This was the surprise packet of our Yella Road outing in September 2005. Recently decorated, this pub has undoubtedly one of the best smoking gardens in town. One that could be used comfortably even on the coldest of nights!
The Toddle - Waterford
December Geoffs - Ciddy Centre
Geoffs is not only one of our favourite venues, it is also one of the most popular spots in Waterford. The music is always alternative and importantly not too loud. Unlike a lot of the pubs we visit, Geoffs is one where you would stay for more than the one drink.
Geoffs - Waterford
